The TVI Take
Wes Anderson's 1996 directorial debut, expanded from his and Owen Wilson's 1994 short film. Owen and Luke Wilson's actor debut, James Caan as the criminal-mentor character, and the film's Texas-set heist-comedy register established the Anderson tone the catalog would extend.
Lower IQ than Anderson's mature work because the formal language was still developing, but the structural commitments (deadpan ensemble, episodic chapter structure, music supervision) are already present.
