The TVI Take
Zack Snyder's 2009 adaptation of the Alan Moore graphic novel. The film commits with unusual fidelity to the source's iconography and panel composition, Snyder's frame-for-frame translation reads as both achievement and limitation.
The Cold War alternate-history premise lands; the moral interrogation that drives the comic's central twist lands less cleanly under the genre conventions Snyder imports. Notable for proving that adult-prestige superhero material could earn theatrical scale before the genre's mainstream took the lesson.
