The TVI Take
Don Hall and Qui Nguyen's 2022 Disney feature whose multi-generational male-family premise (Jaeger, Searcher, and Ethan Clade exploring an alien biome together) is more thematically ambitious than the marketing positioning conveyed. The pulp-magazine visual register is the film's distinctive aesthetic commitment; the open queer son's character is rare Disney representation rendered without speech-event framing.
Underperformed commercially but reads as the studio's most structurally honest 2022 work.
