The TVI Take
Naoko Takeuchi's 1992 shōjo manga adapted by Toei Animation into a 200-episode anime that ran through 1997. The structural argument is that adolescent female friendship can carry the weight of cosmic-scale moral stakes, an argument shōjo storytelling had not made at that scale before.
The monster-of-the-week formula limits the cognitive ceiling, but the serialized arcs about identity loss (the R season's amnesia, the Stars season's deaths) earn a Competent ranking. The character design and Takanori Arisawa's score set the template every magical-girl series since has reckoned with.
