The TVI Take
Ridley Scott's atheist sci-fi parable. Two androids raise human children on a distant planet seeded by the last remnants of Earth's religious wars.
Aaron Guzikowski's writing turns the show's central question, whether pure-reason machines can parent a species whose history is theological, into a sustained philosophical investigation. Cinematography and worldbuilding operate at theatrical-Scott register. HBO Max cancelled the show during the 2022 library purge with a five-season arc planned. The cancellation is the textbook case of a platform-strategy failure having nothing to do with the work.
