The TVI Take
Andrew Haigh's 2017 Pacific Northwest film, adapted from Willy Vlautin's novel. Charlie Plummer plays a fifteen-year-old whose attachment to a failing racehorse turns into a survival journey across rural America.
Haigh strips out music and incident to observe poverty and abandonment without exploitation. Steve Buscemi gives a career-best supporting performance.
