The TVI Take
Wes Anderson's 2018 stop-motion film set in a dystopian near-future Japan where all dogs have been banished to a garbage island. The visual-development work (Anderson's second collaboration with Fantastic Mr.
Fox's animation team) is among the most-committed stop-motion productions of the streaming era. The political-allegory subtext (authoritarian municipal politics, scientific dissent, youth activism) is rendered more pointedly than the genre framing initially suggests.
