The TVI Take
Scorsese's 1985 SoHo nightmare anchored by Griffin Dunne as a word-processor whose ordinary night downtown turns into a Kafkaesque inability-to-go-home cascade. Made on a tight budget after the Last Temptation of Christ financing collapsed; the constraints produced one of Scorsese's most formally inventive features.
The black-comedy register is rare in the catalog and the achievement is the more distinctive for it.
