The journalism-film genre has two distinct registers: films that treat reporting as actual craft (interview protocol, source verification, editorial decision-making, legal review) and films that use the journalism premise as backdrop for thriller or romance plot. Anchor picks: Spotlight (2015) is the canonical Masterclass entry, Best Picture winner, the most-procedurally-accurate journalism film since All the President's Men. All the President's Men (1976) established the genre's structural template. The Post (2017) renders the Katharine-Graham-as-publisher decision-making process with documentary specificity. Network (1976) is the only entry in this register that's actually satirical commentary, and remains its most-prescient.
